How much is the Illinois license reinstatement process going to cost me?

Unfortunately, the Illinois license reinstatement process is not cheap, that is why we are committed to offering the LOWEST fees to help reduce this financial burden. There are several costs besides attorney's fees. Those include the $50 filing fee when we are ready to proceed and request a formal administrative hearing. There is also the obligatory uniform report and/or update. Once the client has finally been issued a reinstatement, there are several fees that the client must pay. One is the $500 license reinstatement to the Secretary of State of Illinois in order to clear their license. There is typically also a BAIID permit and a restricted driving permit. A restricted driving permit will cost the client $8 per year. When explaining these costs, we try to reconfirm with the client the importance of having their driver's license and also explain that these costs are necessary and, unfortunately, will not go away. How long does the Illinois license reinstatement process take?

The answer to this question, while fairly simple, really depends on the clients commitment towards the process. In any event, the first step is finding out whether the client is eligible for reinstatement? If they are considered eligible, are they entitled to full driving relief, or will they first have to receive a restricted driving permit (RDP). Either way, if your license is revoked, you will need a hearing, either formal or informal, to secure driving relief. Some clients are ready to go to a hearing within as little as a few weeks. Other clients take much longer. This really depends on whether the client is committed to getting their license back. If they are committed, then the attorney that will represent them can gather all of the fact necessary to prepare their client in an expedited and efficient manner. However, if the client drags their feet, or refuses to cooperate with their attorney, then obviously the process will take much longer.

What about the BAID system?

Chances are, if you have more than two DUI convictions, you will be required to install the breath alcohol interlock device system in your car. This system regularly monitors whether you have consumed any alcohol. After blowing, if the system detects alcohol a notice will be automatically sent out. Many question the necessity of having such a device, while others find it a useful deterrent.
